Microbial Contaminants - Coliform Bacteria
Coliform Bacteria is the primary measure of the microbial quality of drinking water. They are used as indicators of the possible
presence of patogenic, or disease-causing, microorganisms. Coliforms do not normally cause illness themselves.
In the laboratory, samples that test positive for total coliforms are further examined for fecal coliforms or E. coli, which are
more specific indicators of fecal contamination.
